The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has taken a significant step towards enhancing the education system in India by introducing the Holistic Progress Card (HPC) under the National Education Policy 2020. This new initiative aims to provide a comprehensive and multidimensional progress monitoring system for students up to class 8.

PARAKH (Performance Assessment, Review and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development), a national assessment center under NCERT, has developed the progress card for different stages of education – foundational, preparatory, and middle stages. The HPC will track students’ progress in various domains throughout the year, taking into account feedback from peers, parents, and self-assessment.

Indrani Bhaduri, CEO of PARAKH, emphasized the importance of the progress card in documenting students’ achievements in different areas such as physical, socio-emotional, literacy, and studies. The card will serve as a vital link between home and school, fostering active involvement of parents in their children’s holistic education and development.

While the implementation of HPC is a progressive move, it will require extensive training for teachers and awareness among parents. PARAKH has already started training faculty and master trainers to facilitate the adoption of the progress card in schools across the country. Additionally, efforts are being made to digitize the progress cards and translate them into regional languages to ensure inclusivity.
