Neeraj Chopra to Compete at Federation Cup in Bhubaneswar, Emphasizes Importance of Promoting Athletics in India

Neeraj Chopra, the reigning Olympic javelin throw champion, is set to participate in the upcoming Federation Cup in Bhubaneswar, less than a week after his season opener at the Diamond League. Despite concerns about the impact on his preparations for the Paris Olympics, Chopra is determined to promote athletics in India and inspire more people to follow the sport.

Chopra expressed his love for competing in India, stating that he wants to raise the profile of athletics in the country. He emphasized the importance of participating in international competitions at home, where both Indian and foreign throwers can compete in front of local crowds. Chopra’s decision to compete in the Federation Cup was made in consultation with the federation, considering the proximity to the Olympics and the need for a selective competition schedule.

Joining Chopra at the event will be fellow Olympic qualifier Kishore Kumar Jena, who is excited to perform in front of his home crowd for the first time since the Asian Games. Jena expressed his admiration for Chopra and the opportunity to learn from him in competition.

Chopra, who hinted at the possibility of training more in India post-Paris Olympics, remains humble despite his Olympic success. He acknowledged the growing recognition of javelin throw in India and the positive impact on the sport’s popularity.

With both Chopra and Jena set to showcase their talents at the Federation Cup, Indian athletics fans can look forward to an exciting competition that highlights the talent and dedication of these athletes.
