Neeraj Chopra in the Spotlight as Athletes Gear Up for Paris Olympics at Federation Cup 2024

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Neeraj Chopra, India’s star javelin thrower, is set to make his return to domestic competition after three years at the 27th Federation Cup in Bhubaneswar. The Olympic and world champion will be the main attraction at the event, which kicks off on Sunday at the Kalinga Stadium.

Chopra, who recently finished second in the Diamond League meeting in Doha with a throw of 88.36m, is expected to showcase his skills and possibly set a new national record during the competition. His last domestic appearance was at the same event in Patiala three years ago before the Tokyo Olympics.

Joining Chopra in the javelin throw event is Kishore Kumar Jena, who surprised everyone with a massive personal best of 87.54m at the Asian Games last year. Jena will be looking to improve on his performance in Doha and impress the home crowd.

In the men’s long jump event, all eyes will be on Jeswin Aldrin, who set a new national record of 8.42m last year. With Murali Sreeshankar ruled out of the Olympics due to injury, Jeswin will be aiming to secure his spot in the event.

Triple jumper Praveen Chithravel will also be in action, looking to better his performance and qualify for the Paris Olympics. The competition will also feature shot putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor, who will be aiming to replicate his record-breaking throw from last year.

Overall, the Federation Cup promises to be an exciting event with top Indian athletes competing for glory and aiming to secure their spots for the upcoming Paris Olympics.
