Nepal Leads Inaugural Rainbow Tourism Conference, Pledges Safe Destination for All

The first International Rainbow Tourism Conference kicked off in Nepal, with the country positioning itself as a safe and respectful destination for the sexual minority community in South Asia. Organized by Mayako Pahichan Nepal, a non-governmental organization, the conference aimed to promote diversity and inclusivity within the tourism industry.

“We are thrilled to host the first rainbow tourism conference in Nepal,” said Sunil Babu Pant, the executive director of Mayako Pahichan Nepal and the first Parliament Member from the LGBT community. He emphasized Nepal’s potential as a perfect destination for pink tourism, highlighting the country’s constitutional recognition of LGBT rights.

The conference’s main objective was to establish Nepal as an LGBT-friendly tourism destination. Minister for Women, Children, and Senior Citizens, Bhagawati Chaudhary, emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to promote LGBT tourism in Nepal.

With over 3,100 registered members of the LGBT community in Nepal, the government has implemented laws to ensure equal treatment and a violence-free environment for sexual minorities. Nepal also allows for same-sex marriage and positions itself as a honeymoon destination for the LGBT community.

The international conference, attended by 120 participants from various countries, including activists and media persons, aims to foster inclusivity and empowerment within the LGBTI community. Nepal’s Supreme Court remains committed to upholding justice and equality for all citizens, recognizing the economic and social benefits of rainbow tourism.

As Nepal continues to champion diversity and inclusivity in global tourism, the conference’s declaration reaffirms the country’s dedication to creating a welcoming environment for all travelers. With progressive laws and a supportive environment, Nepal stands as a beacon of inclusivity in the tourism industry.
