Netanyahu of Israel assures that defences are ‘prepared’ amid Iran attacks

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Iran has launched a series of aerial drones at Israel in what appears to be a long-anticipated reprisal attack. The attack, which was expected to reach Israel at 02:00 on Sunday, has put the region on high alert.

According to Iranian state media, the Revolutionary Guards have also launched missiles at Israel in addition to the drones. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have stated that they are monitoring all targets and are on high alert. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has convened a meeting of his war cabinet in response to the attack.

In anticipation of further escalation, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq have closed their airspaces, while Syria and Jordan have put their air defenses on alert. This comes after Iran vowed to retaliate for an attack on its consulate in Syria on 1 April, which killed seven military officers, including a top commander. Iran has accused Israel of carrying out the attack, although Israel has neither confirmed nor denied its involvement.

In response to the attack, US National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson stated that President Biden’s support for Israel’s security is “ironclad.” UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also condemned Iran’s actions, calling the attack “reckless” and vowing to continue standing up for Israel’s security and that of all regional partners.

The situation remains tense as both sides brace for potential further escalation in the conflict.
