Netanyahu under consideration for arrest warrant by International Criminal Court

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The International Criminal Court (ICC) is currently probing Israel’s actions in the West Bank and Gaza, independent of other cases at the International Court of Justice. Israeli media reports suggest that the ICC is considering issuing arrest warrants for senior officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi.

The ICC investigation is separate from other cases brought against Israel, such as South Africa’s claims of genocide in Gaza. Prime Minister Netanyahu has criticized the ICC investigations, calling them outrageous and warning of a dangerous precedent.

In the midst of these developments, efforts to revive ceasefire talks have intensified. A delegation from Hamas is set to discuss an Israeli-proposed ceasefire in Cairo, while an Israeli delegation is also expected in the city. The goal is to prevent a threatened Israeli ground offensive in Rafah, where a large portion of Gaza’s population has sought shelter.

Meanwhile, Israel has announced an increase in aid deliveries to Gaza. Israeli military spokesperson Daniel Hagari stated that humanitarian aid, including food, water, medical supplies, shelter, and equipment, has significantly increased in recent weeks and will continue to scale up. However, a spokesperson from the World Food Program cautioned that it is still too early to determine if the risk of famine in Gaza has been averted, as a recent UN-backed report warned of imminent famine and widespread hunger in the region.
