Netflix and Greg Berlanti are teaming up for a new live-action TV series based on the iconic Hanna-Barbera animated cartoon, “Scooby-Doo.” The streaming giant is close to finalizing a deal for the project, which has a script-to-series commitment, meaning if the script is well-received, it will lead to a straight-to-series order for the live-action update of the classic cartoon.
The script for the series will be penned by Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, known for their work on “Cowboy Bebop” and “High Fidelity.” The executive producers include Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, André Nemec, and Jeff Pinkner. Warner Bros. Television, the studio behind the project, owns the animation studio Hanna-Barbera.
This new live-action take on “Scooby-Doo” follows the success of the early 2000s feature film adaptation, which grossed $275 million worldwide. The franchise, created in 1969, has seen numerous adaptations and spinoffs over the years, solidifying its place as one of the greatest TV cartoons in history.
Berlanti’s production company, along with Midnight Radio, has been behind several successful projects, including “You” and “Dead Boy Detectives.” The collaboration with Netflix continues to expand their portfolio, with “Scooby-Doo” marking their latest TV venture.
As fans eagerly await more details about the upcoming series, the partnership between Netflix, Greg Berlanti, and Warner Bros. Television promises to bring a fresh and exciting take on the beloved characters of “Scooby-Doo” to a new generation of viewers.
