Nevis Business Students Gain Valuable Mentorship from Park Rapids Enterprise

Nevis High School students in Laura Scanlon’s personal finance class and Jodi Sandmeyer’s economics class recently had the opportunity to partner with Best Prep to gain real-world experiences. Through this partnership, students were able to communicate with employees from Thrivent Financial in Minneapolis via email.

During the program, students introduced themselves to their “eMentor” and engaged in weekly discussions on various workplace topics such as goals, leadership qualities, and money management. Mentors provided valuable advice based on their own career journeys, offering insights into the importance of self-motivation and work/life balance.

The highlight of the program came on April 29 when students traveled to Thrivent corporate headquarters to meet their eMentors in person. The visit included a tour of the facility, a career panel, and a networking lunch provided by Thrivent.

In addition to the eMentor program, Nevis students also participated in the Stock Market Game, where they had the opportunity to invest virtual money and track their progress using real-time stock market pricing. Furthermore, this summer, 10 Nevis high school students will attend the Minnesota Business Venture, a week-long business camp focused on developing business, leadership, and financial literacy skills.

Overall, the partnership with Best Prep and Thrivent Financial provided Nevis students with valuable insights and experiences that will benefit them in their future careers.
