College of Education and Health Professions Launches Alumni Mentoring Program

Audrey Hunter, a dedicated registered nurse and alumna of the College of Education and Health Professions, has eagerly joined the college’s new Alumni Mentoring Program (AMP) to support students on their journey into the workforce. Hunter, who holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Eleanor Mann School of Nursing and recently completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice, is currently a charge nurse at Saint Luke’s South Hospital in Overland Park, Kansas.

The AMP aims to connect alumni like Hunter with students who share similar academic and career interests. The program offers three mentorship options to accommodate professionals’ availability and preferences. Mary Keith, the director of career initiatives in the college, expressed excitement about the opportunity for alumni to give back and guide future graduates towards success.

Zack Vaughan, a program participant and director of a sports performance center in Illinois, is eager to support students interested in the health and fitness sector. Vaughan emphasized the importance of providing resources and guidance to students as they navigate their career paths.

Students, such as elementary education major Alex Hicks and sophomore exercise science student Olivia Smith, are looking forward to the mentorship program. Hicks hopes to receive valuable insights and feedback from an experienced educator, while Smith seeks guidance from a mentor who is passionate about their field and can help her establish a strong foundation for her future in medicine.
