New Calgary exhibit celebrates historic homes by local artist

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Calgary artist Jackie Ramsay has found a unique way to showcase the city’s heritage through her latest project. Inspired by her daily walks with her dog, Ramsay has painted 100 historic houses in the Crescent Heights neighborhood.

Ramsay, who has lived in the area for almost four decades, was struck by the beauty of the houses she encountered while walking her dog, Rennie. She decided to capture the essence of these homes through her paintings, most of which are around 100 years old.

The project, titled ‘100 Storeys’, is a tribute to the history and craftsmanship of the community. Ramsay’s exhibit will be on display at the Crescent Heights Community Association (CHCA) hall in northwest Calgary as part of the ‘A Heritage Celebration’ event.

Ramsay hopes that her paintings will encourage people to pause and appreciate the beauty and character of older Calgary. She describes the project as a labor of love and is grateful for the opportunity to showcase her work to the community.

The free exhibit will be open to the public on Saturday, May 4, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the CHCA hall. It promises to be a unique opportunity for residents to connect with the history and heritage of their neighborhood through art.
