New education center in Southeast Kansas seeks to change lives

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Second Chance Education Center in Parsons, Kansas is making waves in the community as it aims to provide support and resources for students and young adults struggling with behavioral issues. Owned by Mandy Monroy and Lee Reliford, the center is a beacon of hope for those who have been suspended, bounced around from district to district, or dropped out of school.

Monroy, speaking passionately about the center, expressed her belief in the power of giving individuals a second chance. She shared, “I just can’t imagine the feeling of no one being there, no one supporting you, no one loving you, knowing no one believing in you. And I really felt like my heart led me to the Second Chance Education Center.”

The center offers a variety of programs, including adult education for those looking to complete their high school diploma. Reliford emphasized the importance of positive affirmations and self-love in the learning process, stating, “I want them to understand that they speak the words that they speak, and today is creating the person that they’re going to be in the next 2 to 3 years.”

With a focus on project-based learning and virtual options for students, the Second Chance Education Center is dedicated to ensuring that no one falls behind academically or behaviorally. The owners will be presenting their innovative ideas to the Parsons School District, hoping to garner support for their mission of giving every individual a second chance at success.
