Hamas Releases New Video Proof of Hostages Held in Gaza

On Saturday, the Palestinian militant group Hamas released ‘proof of life’ videos of two hostages being held in Gaza. The hostages, identified as Keith Siegel (64) and Omri Miran (46) by the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, appeared in the footage calling out in Hebrew, praying for a deal to be struck for their release.

The three-minute-long video, labeled as “new propaganda” by The Times of Israel, shows the hostages identifying themselves and addressing their families. While the video is undated, Miran mentions being held captive for 202 days, and Siegel makes a reference to the Passover holiday, suggesting the videos were recently filmed.

Israel has condemned the videos as “deplorable psychological warfare,” claiming to have seen similar tactics before. The Hostages and Missing Families Forum is urging the government to secure a deal for the hostages’ return before Independence Day on May 14.

Siegel, a dual US citizen, was abducted with his wife from their home in Kibbutz Kfar Aza, while Miran was kidnapped from Kibbutz Nir Oz during the October 7 Hamas attack in southern Israel. The release of these videos follows a recent live appearance by another hostage, Hersh Goldberg-Polin.

Miran, seemingly under duress, describes the situation as “unpleasant” and “difficult,” highlighting the dangers they face. The campaign group is pushing for swift action to bring the hostages home and provide closure for their families.
