Hyatt Takes Steps to Improve Accessibility for Neurodivergent Travelers
In a groundbreaking initiative, Hyatt is partnering with KultureCity and New York University’s Jonathan M. Tisch Center of Hospitality to address the needs of neurodivergent travelers and enhance the overall travel experience. The Chicago-based hotel giant is committed to making the industry more welcoming and inclusive for individuals with invisible disabilities.
A recent survey conducted by Hyatt revealed key areas where hotels can improve processes to better serve neurodivergent travelers. The findings showed that a significant percentage of caregivers and neurodivergent travelers are willing to disclose their neurodiversity during the booking process to receive better assistance. This self-disclosure prompts hotels to provide training to staff members to ensure the understanding and inclusion of neurodivergent guests.
Hyatt has already taken significant steps to enhance accessibility, with properties like the Hyatt Regency Aqaba Ayla in Jordan and Hyatt House Seattle/Bellevue offering sensory inclusive certifications. The company is also testing new “Hyatt Has It” items tailored to neurodivergent travelers at select properties.
Moreover, Hyatt is exploring the implementation of visual layouts, digital check-in and checkout options, and in-room sleep offerings to cater to the specific needs of neurodivergent travelers. The collaboration with Headspace allows guests to access colored noise content for a more comfortable stay.
Mark Vondrasek, Hyatt’s chief commercial officer, emphasized the importance of creating a more inclusive environment for neurodivergent travelers. By listening to the community and implementing survey findings, Hyatt aims to lead the industry in providing a seamless and accessible travel experience for all guests.
With a growing number of neurodivergent individuals and caretakers planning to travel, the move towards neuroinclusive offerings not only aligns with Hyatt’s values but also presents a significant business opportunity. By prioritizing accessibility and inclusivity, Hyatt is setting a new standard for the hospitality industry and paving the way for a more welcoming travel experience for all.
