New mixed-use creative space planned for Grafton in Ozaukee County

The long-vacant property along 12th Avenue in Grafton may soon see a vibrant transformation into a community art space known as Grafton Creative. Developer Dieter Wegner is seeking to renew the planned unit development at 1032-1038 12th Ave., combining residential and commercial buildings with open spaces in a single project.

Assistant Village Administrator-Community Development Director Jessica Wolff shared that the existing building will house various arts and creative businesses, as well as live-work spaces. The development will include office spaces, artist studios, art galleries, and more. Cedarburg interior design firm BSL Studios is set to be the first tenant, offering services related to home design plans.

Community Development staff and other departments have approved the development, citing benefits such as reusing a deteriorating site, not overburdening public facilities, and enhancing neighboring properties. Recommendations include the construction of a paved parking lot with lighting due to limited off-street parking.

Any changes to the building footprint or proposed uses will require an amendment to the planned unit development. The Plan Commission will discuss this exciting project further at their meeting today at 6 p.m.
