New Poll Reveals Troubling News for Donald Trump Amid Manhattan Trial

Former President Donald Trump is facing potential trouble as a new poll reveals the impact of his ongoing criminal hush money trial in Manhattan. The poll, conducted by ABC News/Ipsos, shows that 80 percent of Trump’s supporters would continue to stand by him even if he was convicted of a felony in the case. However, 20 percent of his base may reconsider their support or withdraw it altogether.

Trump, who is the presumptive 2024 Republican presidential nominee, made history as the first former president to stand trial in a criminal case last month. The charges against him include allegedly falsifying business records related to hush money payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels during his 2016 presidential campaign. Despite pleading not guilty and claiming the case is politically motivated, Trump faces three other criminal indictments.

The poll also indicates a close race between Trump and his likely challenger, President Joe Biden, with 46 percent of all adults surveyed supporting Trump and 44 percent supporting Biden. However, Biden leads among registered and likely voters, with 46 percent of registered voters and 49 percent of likely voters supporting him.

Political strategist Brad Bannon commented that a Trump conviction could be the boost Biden needs to secure a win, as Trump’s behavior before, during, and after the trial may impact public opinion. Another poll by Reuters/Ipsos found that 55 percent of American adults, including 51 percent of Republicans, would not vote for Trump if he was convicted of a felony.
