Reading Time: < 1 minute

The South Coast Tourism and Investment Enterprise (SCTIE) in KwaZulu-Natal has unveiled a new rural tourism route, The Emalangeni Experience, to showcase the beauty and authenticity of the region.

Starting in the coastal town of Pennington and extending into the rural Emalangeni area in Umdoni, the route offers a variety of activities for visitors. From tours of historic sites like Botha House to nature hikes in Umdoni Park Nature Reserve and Nkomba Nature Reserve, beach outings at Pennington Beach, local cuisine options, breweries, and countryside lodges for accommodation, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Rural tourism focuses on nature-based activities, agriculture, rural lifestyle, culture, angling, and sightseeing in areas with low population density. It aims to support local economies, preserve culture and tradition, and conserve natural resources.

The Emalangeni Experience not only provides a unique cultural immersion in rural KZN but also boosts local entrepreneurship and employment opportunities. It is seen as a promising industry for rural development and economic growth in South Africa.

This new tourism route is a way to honor the history and stories of rural communities while offering travelers a chance to experience the beauty of KwaZulu-Natal’s countryside. With a focus on sustainability and community development, The Emalangeni Experience is set to become a popular destination for those seeking an authentic and enriching travel experience in South Africa.
