The high school spring sports scene in Bay County was filled with excitement on April 11-12, 2024, as teams battled it out on the field. One standout performance came from the Pinconning girls soccer team, who rallied for a thrilling 2-1 victory over Millington.
Despite facing less-than-ideal weather conditions, the Spartans showed resilience and determination to secure the win. First-year coach Kaylee Meissner was thrilled with the team’s performance, especially as they came from behind to clinch the victory.
Pinconning, which struggled last season with a 2-11-4 record, is off to a promising start this year with one win and one tie in their first two games. The team’s comeback was led by goals from Lexi Drouse and Tess Gasiciel, with solid defense from Ainsley Sylvester in goal.
In another soccer match, Essexville Garber dominated Alma with an impressive 8-0 win in Tri-Valley Conference action. Natalie Fodrey recorded a shutout in goal, while the Dukes saw goals from five different players, including Ciara Kelly with a hat-trick.
On the lacrosse field, John Glenn put up a strong fight in their season opener against Swartz Creek but ultimately fell short with an 11-3 loss. Despite the defeat, players like Jarod Holliday and Landon Lanczak showed promise for the season ahead.
High school sports fans in Bay County have plenty to look forward to this spring, with more exciting matchups and standout performances on the horizon.
