Dubai’s private higher education institutions are experiencing a surge in student enrolment, with a 12% increase reported in the latest data released by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). The total number of students currently enrolled in private higher education institutions in Dubai has reached 34,893, with international students making up a significant portion of the student body.
According to the KHDA, the number of international students has seen a remarkable 25% increase, nearly doubling the count of new enrolments compared to the previous academic year. This growth in international student enrolment reflects Dubai’s position as a preferred choice for students worldwide seeking quality education opportunities.
In the 2023-2024 academic year, five new international universities were inaugurated, bringing the total count of higher education providers licensed by KHDA to 38. Her Excellency Aisha Miran, Director General of KHDA, highlighted the record growth in student enrolment as a positive step towards making Dubai a leading global hub for higher education.
The infographic released by KHDA provides comprehensive data on Dubai’s higher education sector, showcasing the variety of programmes offered by universities in the city. Degrees in business, engineering, information technology, and media and design are among the most sought-after programmes, with growth in enrolment seen in natural and physical sciences, humanities, and law.
With 63% of students pursuing a bachelor’s degree, 28% enrolled in a master’s programme, and 2% working towards a doctorate, Dubai’s higher education sector continues to attract a diverse range of students seeking quality education opportunities. The increase in international student enrolment further solidifies Dubai’s reputation as a global education hub.
