Jennifer Hornyak has been appointed as the new superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, as announced by Most Rev. Mark Brennan, Bishop of the Diocese. Hornyak, who has been serving as the interim superintendent since July 1, 2023, brings nearly 23 years of experience within the Department of Catholic Schools in the diocese.

Having previously held the position of Associate Superintendent and Director of Educational Technology, Hornyak has demonstrated a strong commitment to the Catholic identity and educational excellence. She has also been teaching online and in-person education courses as an adjunct instructor at Wheeling University for the past decade.

Bishop Brennan expressed his confidence in Hornyak’s leadership, stating, “Since being named interim superintendent, she has shown a great love not only for our students, but also for the staff and administration of our schools.” Hornyak, who holds two undergraduate degrees from Wheeling University and a master’s degree in educational technology, is also a graduate of Villanova University’s Certificate in Catholic School Management program.

In response to her appointment, Hornyak expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Catholic schools in the diocese, emphasizing the importance of faith formation and academic growth for students. She highlighted the tradition of Catholic education in West Virginia and pledged to work collaboratively with principals, teachers, and staff to ensure the continued success of the schools.

With a focus on nurturing each child’s God-given talents, Hornyak looks forward to partnering with parents as the primary educators of their children to provide a well-rounded education that integrates academic rigor with Catholic values.
