New Train Line Proposed to Connect Malaga and Marbella Along the Spanish Coast

A new train line is set to connect some of Spain’s most popular seaside cities and villages along the sun-drenched Costa del Sol, making it easier for tourists to explore the picturesque coastline.

The €2.5 billion project, proposed by a group of engineers, railway experts, and regular commuters, will extend the existing route from Malaga to Fuengirola. The plan includes connecting Malaga and Marbella via the scenic Guadalhorce valley, with a goal of limiting journey times to 45-50 minutes between the coastal resort cities.

Currently, travelers often rely on ridesharing services to make the trip, but the new train line will provide easy access to key locations such as the Costa del Sol hospital and bus station. The proposed route could also include stops at inland and coastal destinations like Mijas, Alhaurin de la Torre, Coin, and Alhaurin el Grande, offering opportunities for enjoyable day trips from the cities.

In addition to benefiting tourists, the new rail system could also help address housing problems in the region. Train driver Pablo Marín highlighted the importance of the project in structuring the province in terms of population and encouraging social integration for residents of remote areas.

With the potential to enhance transportation options, boost tourism, and improve connectivity along the Costa del Sol, the new train line is poised to have a significant impact on the region’s economy and infrastructure.
