New Ulm High School’s tennis team emerged victorious in a thrilling match against Fairmont on Monday, securing a 6-1 win in a Big South Conference meet. The competition was fierce, with both teams showcasing their skills on the court.
Fairmont’s No. 1 doubles team of Carter Quist and Dominick Lund-May managed to secure the lone win for the Cardinals, defeating Joey Kotten and Daniel Brownfield in a tight match that ended with a score of 7-6 (12-10), 6-4.
However, New Ulm dominated the singles matches, with Mav Johnson leading the charge by defeating Anthony Stegge in straight sets with a score of 6-0, 6-3. The rest of the team followed suit, with Charlie Weidman, Gideon Heins, and Ian Schotzko all securing wins in their respective singles matches.
The doubles teams also contributed to New Ulm’s victory, with Aaron Black and Ethan Neet as well as Isaac Dittmer and Eli Dorschner securing wins in their matches.
In other sports news, the New Ulm softball team also had a successful outing, with Lauren Schmiesing’s 10th-inning home run leading them to a 4-2 victory over Mankato East. Ramsey Hopp’s stellar pitching performance, along with key hits from Kenzie Enter and Berkley Wilfahrt, helped secure the win for New Ulm.
Overall, it was a day of triumph for New Ulm’s sports teams, showcasing their talent and determination on the field.
