New Ulm Club celebrates 70th annual Athletic Appreciation Banquet

The 70th annual New Ulm Club Athletic Appreciation Banquet was a night to remember as six senior athletes from the three New Ulm high schools were honored as their school’s Male and Female Outstanding Senior Athletes of the Year. The banquet, held at Martin Luther College, celebrated the hard work and dedication of these exceptional athletes.

At New Ulm High School, Afton Hulke and James Osborne were named the Female and Male Outstanding Senior Athletes of the Year, respectively. Hulke, a two-sport athlete in volleyball and hockey, was praised for her leadership and dedication on and off the court. Osborne, a three-sport athlete in football, basketball, and track and field, was recognized for his outstanding performance and sportsmanship throughout his high school career.

Over at Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School, Mackenzie Merseth and Ben Pearson were honored as the Female and Male Outstanding Senior Athletes of the Year. Merseth, a three-sport athlete in volleyball, basketball, and golf, was commended for her versatility and team spirit. Pearson, a standout in basketball and golf, was lauded for his record-breaking achievements and leadership on and off the court.

Lastly, at Cathedral High School, Jenna Hotovec and Jevan Wilfahrt were recognized as the Female and Male Outstanding Senior Athletes of the Year. Hotovec, a three-sport athlete in volleyball, basketball, and softball, was celebrated for her exceptional performance and leadership qualities. Wilfahrt, a four-sport athlete in football, basketball, track and field, and baseball, was praised for his dedication and success in multiple sports.

The guest speaker, Frank Whitcomb, emphasized the importance of wisdom and individual growth in the lives of student-athletes. The evening was a true celebration of talent, hard work, and sportsmanship, showcasing the best of New Ulm’s young athletes.
