New Ulm Eagles Sweep Worthington in Big South Conference Baseball Doubleheader
The New Ulm Eagles had a dominant performance as they swept a Big South Conference baseball doubleheader against Worthington on Saturday at Johnson Park. The Eagles won both games in six innings, with scores of 10-0 and 14-4.
In the first game, Tanner Backer pitched a complete game shutout, striking out seven batters and allowing only four hits. Luke Suess led the offense with a 4 for 2 performance, driving in three runs and scoring two himself. Zach Hubbard and Preston Holberg also contributed with two hits each and an RBI.
The Eagles got off to a strong start in the second inning, scoring two runs on a double by Suess. They continued to pile on runs in the following innings, taking advantage of hits, errors, and walks to secure the win.
In the second game, Kaden Larson earned the win on the mound, striking out six batters and allowing just two hits and one earned run. Ethan Thompson had a standout performance at the plate, going 2 for 3 with three runs scored, three RBIs, and three stolen bases.
Despite a brief stumble in the fifth inning, allowing three runs from Worthington, the Eagles quickly regained their momentum and scored five runs in the sixth inning to secure a 14-4 victory.
New Ulm head coach Mike Anderson praised his team’s offensive performance, highlighting their quality at-bats and ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities. The Eagles will look to carry this momentum into their next game against Marshall at Mueller Park on Tuesday.
