New Ulm golf teams face challenging weather conditions in first competition | News, Sports, Employment

The New Ulm High School golf teams kicked off their season with a tough loss to Mankato West in a nonconference meet at the New Ulm Country Club. Despite battling rain bursts and gusty winds, the Eagles put up a good fight but ultimately fell short.

The boys team lost 330-345, with Will Fossen leading the way with a score of 81, placing second overall. On the girls side, the Eagles were defeated 419-468, with Elyse Dreckman finishing fourth with a score of 109.

New Ulm head coach Kim Paa expressed optimism about the team’s performance and is looking forward to a successful season ahead. She hopes to see improvement in team scores and individual performances as the season progresses.

Despite the challenging weather conditions, the players remained focused and determined on the course. Fossen mentioned that the mental aspect of the game was more challenging than the physical conditions, especially when dealing with the wind.

Looking ahead, the Eagles will have a chance to bounce back in a home invitational against Blue Earth Area, Fairmont, Le Sueur-Henderson, St. Peter, and Tri-City United. With a positive attitude and determination, the New Ulm High School golf teams are ready to showcase their skills and compete at a high level in the upcoming matches.
