News Center: Leading the Way in Implementing Evidence-Based Programs

The University of Texas at Arlington has taken a significant step towards improving Latino student success in higher education by partnering with Excelencia in Education, a leading authority on this issue. The collaboration has resulted in the release of a compilation titled “Advancing What Works to Intentionally Serve Latino Students: Opportunities for Action – 2024,” which highlights evidence-based programs that enhance educational achievement for Latino and other post-traditional students.

The compilation focuses on five key areas, including engagement with students and families, building strong foundations for success in the first year, enhancing academic and career connections through bilingualism, creating career pathways through experiences and partnerships, and supporting success through gender-based learning communities.

UTA President Jennifer Cowley is part of Excelencia’s national network of Presidents for Latino Student Success, which aims to transform higher education by replicating successful practices that benefit Latino students. UTA is one of 24 colleges and universities supporting the release of the compilation, inspiring educators, community leaders, funders, and policymakers to adopt data-informed practices that work for Latino students.

By earning the Seal of Excelencia, UTA has demonstrated its commitment to going beyond enrollment to intentionally serve Latino students. This certification is awarded to institutions that implement evidence-based practices to ensure the success of Latino students on their campuses.

Through this partnership and collaboration with Excelencia, UTA is leveraging collective expertise and resources to accelerate Latino student success and contribute to the growth of America’s future workforce. This initiative is a significant step towards ensuring that Latino students have access to the resources and support they need to thrive in higher education.
