Reading Time: < 1 minute

News Corp, one of Australia’s leading media companies, has announced significant staff cuts and restructures, with executive chairman Michael Miller confirming that a number of employees will be leaving the business.

In an email to staff, Miller expressed his gratitude to those impacted by the changes, acknowledging their contributions and professionalism. He emphasized the need for News Corp to evolve in response to the rapidly changing landscape of news and information consumption.

As part of the restructure, The Australian will now be grouped with other prestigious mastheads under a new division led by Nicholas Gray and Michelle Gunn. Meanwhile, state-based mastheads like the Courier Mail and Herald Sun will fall under a separate division focused on state and community news, overseen by Mark Reinke.

Key editorial positions have also been reshuffled, with Ben English taking on a broader editorial role across multiple mastheads and Sam Weir leading specific publications within the new structure.

Additionally, News Corp has created a division for free news and lifestyle mastheads, with Pippa Leary and Mick Carroll taking on leadership roles in this area. Jason Scott will transition to executive editor of the Sport Network.

The restructure has also led to the departure of several senior executives, including Peter Blunden and Lisa Muxworthy. While the exact number of job losses has not been disclosed, Miller assured staff that more information would be provided in the coming weeks.

These changes reflect News Corp’s commitment to adapting to the evolving media landscape and ensuring the sustainability of its operations in a rapidly changing industry.
