In a heartbreaking turn of events, four beloved community members have passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy of love and memories. Justine Sammarco, 93, of Patton, passed away surrounded by her family. She was born in Czechoslovakia and is survived by her loving family.

Charles Clair Shaner Jr., 65, passed away suddenly at a medical center in Elmira, N.Y. He was born in Altoona and was the oldest son of his parents. He was also preceded in death by his brother.

Helen St. Clair, 97, a long-time resident of Loysburg, passed away at a retirement center in Martinsburg. She had lived independently for 13 years after her husband’s passing in 2006. Helen and her husband had been residents of Loysburg since 1959.

Sandra Kaye Taylor Lannen, 70, of Tipton, died unexpectedly at UPMC Altoona. She was born in Altoona and married Richard Lannen in 1993. Her husband preceded her in death in 2018.

These individuals will be deeply missed by their families and communities. Their legacies of love, kindness, and strength will live on in the hearts of those who knew them. May they rest in peace.
