The Newton girls tennis team faced a tough challenge against Indianola on Monday, with Lauryn Garrett securing the team’s only win in a 10-1 loss. Garrett dominated her match at No. 1 singles with a score of 6-1, 6-3, showcasing her skill and determination on the court. However, the team struggled in three-set tiebreaks, losing all three matches that went the distance.

Despite the loss, Lex Dirksen and Olivia Hotchkin put up a strong fight in their singles matches, each winning the opening set 6-1. Hotchkin battled hard but ultimately fell in the next two sets 7-5, 10-8, while Dirksen was narrowly defeated 6-4, 10-7. Ella Swarts and Hotchkin also faced a tough doubles match, losing in three sets with a final score of 10-7.

Indianola improved to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the conference, while Newton’s record dropped to 3-4 and 2-3 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. The team will look to bounce back from this defeat and regroup for their upcoming matches.

In another match, the Cardinals took on Pella and unfortunately came up short, losing all 11 matches in straight sets. The team put up a valiant effort, but Class 1A No. 2 Pella proved to be a formidable opponent. Despite the loss, the Cardinals showed resilience and determination on the court, setting their sights on future opportunities for success.
