NFL Flag-in-School Begins 11th Year of Involving Students in Rapidly Growing Team Sport

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The National Football League (NFL), GENYOUth, and NFL FLAG are teaming up to distribute over 4,000 FREE NFL FLAG-In-School flag football kits for the upcoming school year. This initiative aims to inspire youth to develop a love for the sport and promote physical activity among students.

Educators and school-based community organizations can now apply for these free flag football kits to enhance their physical education curriculum and equipment. The applications will be open until May 15, 2024, giving schools the opportunity to strengthen their sports programs.

With a renewed commitment of $1.5 million from the NFL Foundation, the NFL FLAG-In-School program ensures that students, regardless of gender, ability, or skill level, have access to opportunities for physical activity. Since its inception in 2014, this program has provided 37,000 kits to schools and engaged an estimated 17 million students in physical activity.

NFL FLAG-In-School has been instrumental in inspiring youth to participate in sports, especially girls. The program has led to an increase in female students’ participation in physical activity, the establishment of all-girl after school flag football programs, and the movement towards girls’ flag football as a varsity sport at the high school level.

Moreover, the popularity of flag football is on the rise, with the sport set to be included in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. NFL FLAG-In-School has played a significant role in expanding the reach of flag football and promoting physical activity among students.

The partnership between the NFL, GENYOUth, and NFL FLAG is crucial in ensuring that under-resourced schools can provide students with opportunities to be physically active. The program not only fosters a love for sports but also instills important values like teamwork and sportsmanship in students.
