Nigeria: Potential for Rivers PDP Crisis to Escalate into National Crisis – Bode George

Former Deputy National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has issued a warning regarding the political crisis in Rivers State, stating that it could escalate into a national disaster if not addressed promptly. George urged elders and stakeholders of the party to intervene in the situation, emphasizing the need for swift action to prevent further escalation.

In addition, George cautioned President Bola Tinubu against underestimating the threat posed by lawmakers in the state House of Assembly who are seeking to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara. He asserted that Rivers State belongs to the PDP and highlighted the constitutional provision that mandates lawmakers to vacate their seats if they defect to another political party.

George stressed the importance of maintaining peace and order in the country, referencing historical events like ‘Operation Wetie’ which led to the downfall of the First Republic in 1966.
