Nigerian entrepreneur praised for innovative digital healthcare project

A digital healthcare initiative in Nigeria has been recognized by the Legatum Center for Development and Entrepreneurship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for its impact on improving healthcare access in underserved communities. MDaaS Global, a tech-enabled healthcare venture, has provided modern healthcare services to over 260,000 patients in Nigerian villages and established 1,300 clinical partners in 25 cities.

Since 2017, MDaaS Global has invested US$6.8 million to enhance diagnosis in hospitals and is now raising new capital to expand its healthcare network to all 36 states in Nigeria. The company’s CEO, Oluwasogi Oni, highlighted the importance of their e-health solution in bringing quality healthcare to more people across the country.

The Legatum Center celebrated over 15 years of promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in Africa by unveiling its 15-Year Impact Report at a recent conference in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The report showcased the success stories of alumni who have made significant contributions to their communities through innovative ventures.

In addition to MDaaS Global, other ventures like Safi Organics in Kenya and Flare in Kenya have also been recognized for their efforts in eradicating poverty and improving emergency medical care, respectively. The report also highlighted the impact of Speetar, a Libyan-based AI-enabled telemedicine platform, in providing accessible healthcare to conflict-affected communities.

Moving forward, the Legatum Center aims to continue supporting entrepreneurs and ecosystem leaders in creating new markets and building strong economies in Africa. The Center’s Executive Director, Dina H. Sherif, emphasized the importance of recognizing the potential for growth and prosperity in developing countries, stating that “our time is now” to create a better future for all.
