Carleton College Women’s Tennis Team Sweeps MIAC Awards for Second Consecutive Season

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The Carleton College women’s tennis team has once again proven their dominance in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) by sweeping the end of season awards for the second straight year. The Knights took home an impressive total of 16 awards, showcasing their talent and skill on the court.

Among the awards received by the Knights were the MIAC Singles Player of the Year, MIAC Doubles Team of the Year, and multiple players named to the All-MIAC teams for both singles and doubles. Junior standout, Amelia Asfaw, was named the MIAC Women’s Tennis Singles Player of the Year after an outstanding season where she went undefeated in regular season play.

Mary Hose, another key player for the Knights, joined Asfaw on the MIAC Women’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Year. Together, they formed a formidable duo that went undefeated throughout the season, only dropping three tiebreaks. The team’s success extended beyond just singles and doubles, with several players earning spots on the All-Playoff Team.

Head Coach Luciano Battaglini was also recognized for his leadership and coaching abilities, receiving his fourth MIAC Coach of the Year Award. Under his guidance, the Knights finished the season with a perfect 17-0 record and a flawless 10-0 record in MIAC play.

With their impressive performance throughout the season, the Knights are now gearing up to face off against Wisconsin-Whitewater in the first round of the NCAA Championships. Fans and supporters of the Carleton College women’s tennis team can look forward to an exciting matchup as the Knights continue their quest for success on the national stage.
