Nixa High School in the Springfield metro area has once again claimed the top spot on the annual national list of top public high schools. The 2024 Best High School rankings by U.S. News & World Report were released recently, highlighting Nixa’s academic excellence for the fourth consecutive year.

The rankings, which heavily rely on standardized test scores and college-preparatory courses, place Nixa at No. 1 among the 23 high schools in the Springfield metro area. However, at the state level, Nixa is ranked at No. 27 among more than 350 high schools in Missouri.

LaMont Jones, managing editor of education at U.S. News, emphasized the importance of these rankings for parents in evaluating a school’s academic performance. He stated, “Accessible data on our high schools can empower families across the country as they navigate today’s educational environment and plan for the future.”

In addition to Nixa’s top ranking, other high schools in the Springfield metro area also made the list. Ozark High School secured the second spot, followed by Willard High School at No. 3. Central High School in Springfield and Republic High School rounded out the top five.

The rankings also highlighted schools with students performing above expectations in reading, math, and science, as well as those with a higher percentage of students excelling in college-level exams. Overall, Nixa’s consistent academic success has solidified its position as a top-performing high school in the region.
