NLB Services predicts a surge in employment in the travel and tourism sectors, with an expected 58 million new jobs by 2033 according to ET HospitalityWorld.

India’s travel and tourism sector is experiencing a significant boom, with the industry contributing a substantial amount to the country’s economy. According to Sachin Alug, CEO of NLB Services, the sector contributed INR 15.9 trillion in 2022 and is estimated to reach INR 16.5 trillion in 2023.

The sector has also been a major source of employment, with 39 million jobs in 2020, accounting for 8 percent of the nation’s total workforce. Post-pandemic recovery, the sector has seen rapid growth, with a 44 percent increase in talent demand in August 2023. It is expected to add 1.6 million jobs in 2023 and a total of 58.2 million jobs by 2033.

Top states attracting domestic tourists include Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra, while cities like Delhi NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru are driving the increase in hiring. The sector is also witnessing a surge in demand for job profiles such as sales, business development, chefs, travel consultants, and hoteliers.

With the emergence of new subsets like destination wedding travel, religious tourism, and sustainable tourism, the sector is undergoing a massive transformation. Companies are also adopting the gig model to address talent shortages, with a 14 percent increase in gig roles within the sector since January 2023.

Overall, the travel and tourism sector in India is poised for continued growth and innovation, with new job opportunities and evolving trends shaping the industry’s future.
