The University of North Georgia and Flagler College are set to face off in the championship match of the 2024 PBC Women’s Tennis Tournament after both teams secured 4-0 victories in their semifinal matches on Saturday in Columbus, GA.
UNG defeated Georgia College & State University, while Flagler took down host Columbus State to advance to the final. This will be a rematch of last year’s final, where Flagler emerged victorious with a 4-1 win over UNG. The Nighthawks will be looking to claim their first PBC tournament title, while Flagler aims for their third championship in the last four years.
In the semifinals, North Georgia secured the doubles point with wins at the second and third doubles. Valentina Ascarrunz and Carolina Reis led the charge with a 6-1 victory at third doubles, while Angelina Linnikova and Svetlana Teterina sealed the deal with a 6-2 win at second doubles. Teterina and Ascarrunz continued their dominance in singles, both winning in straight sets to help UNG clinch the match.
Flagler faced a tough battle against Columbus State in their semifinal match, with the two teams fighting for nearly 3 hours before the Saints emerged victorious with a 4-0 win. Nadja Meier and Charlotta Buss set the tone with a win at second doubles, and Flagler ultimately secured the doubles point after a close match at the third spot. In singles, the Saints quickly grabbed two points before Buss clinched the match with a win at third singles.
The championship match between UNG and Flagler is set to take place on Sunday at 10am at the Walden Tennis Center, with Columbus State University hosting the event. Tennis fans can expect an exciting showdown between these two powerhouse teams vying for the title.
