Clay County Regional Sports Complex Opens to Address Northeast Florida’s Sports Facility Shortage

Northeast Florida residents often face challenges in finding available sports facilities due to high demand from various recreation organizations. However, a solution has arrived with the opening of the Clay County Regional Sports Complex, the first of its kind in the county.

Located at 4790 Victory Lane in Middleburg, the complex celebrated its official opening with a ribbon-cutting event on Friday. With a busy second weekend ahead, the complex has already attracted significant attention. Originally scheduled to host a lacrosse tournament, the complex will now welcome the Jacksonville Jaguars 2024 Regional Flag Football Tournament, featuring competitors from ages 9 and under to 18 and under.

The complex’s strategic focus on rectangular fields in its first phase aims to meet the demand for such facilities in the region. Kimberly Morgan, Clay County Director of Tourism, emphasized the economic benefits the complex will bring to the area, with tournaments expected to draw in visitors and boost local businesses.

The project, funded in part by a state grant, spans nearly 250 acres near Belmore State Forest and includes eight multipurpose fields, shade areas, restrooms, ponds, and a trail system. Carlton Construction President Matt Carlton and his team brought the project to life, with five lit fields allowing for evening tournaments.

As the complex continues to host tournaments and expand its offerings, it is poised to become a hub for sports enthusiasts in Clay County and beyond. With plans to open the fields to the public in the future, the Clay County Regional Sports Complex is set to enhance recreational opportunities and economic growth in the region.
