Northwestern Softball Team Aims for Redemption in Big Ten Tournament

EVANSTON, Ill. – After falling just short of the Women’s College World Series last year, the Northwestern softball team is gearing up for a redemption run in the Big Ten Tournament as the No. 1 seed.

The Wildcats head into the postseason with Pitcher of the Year Ashley Miller and Coach of the Year Kate Drohan leading the charge. With a talented group and some unfinished business, the team is motivated to make a deep postseason run.

Outfielder Kelsey Nader expressed the team’s determination, stating, “It’s the little kid dream that everyone has when they’re little, to get back there. So we’re really motivated this year, especially with a lot of underdog mentality going on.”

Despite returning just five starters from last season, the young Northwestern team has shown great chemistry and dominance in conference play. The Wildcats went 19-3 in Big Ten contests and won all eight conference series for a second straight year.

Coach Drohan praised the team’s resilience, saying, “I think our team created their own identity. We have a lot of first years. We have a lot of younger players who are filling really big roles for us for the first time.”

With three of the top hitters being sophomores, including standout Kansas Robinson, the Wildcats are poised for success. Robinson, who leads the team in multiple categories, emphasized the team’s unity and mentorship from experienced players.

As the Wildcats aim to defend their Big Ten Tournament title and make a run at the Women’s College World Series, they are focused on being tougher and finishing strong in clutch moments. With valuable postseason experience from players like graduate student Angela Zedak, Northwestern is ready to make a statement in the upcoming tournament.
