Northwestern Women’s Tennis Team Makes NCAA Tournament Return

Northwestern University’s Women’s Tennis team is back in the NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championships after missing out last season. The Wildcats, under coach Claire Pollard, have had a successful season with a record of 19-7, including a 9-2 record in the Big Ten conference.

The team gathered at Combe Tennis Center for a selection show watch party where they learned they would be facing Arizona State in the first round at Pepperdine University. The players, coaches, and fans were ecstatic to hear their name called for the tournament.

Junior Kiley Rabjohns expressed the team’s excitement, stating, “We’re super excited to make it this far, but we know there’s a lot of tennis to play. We’re just going to use this week to see if we can still get better and just give it all in the last couple matches we have.”

This matchup will be the fourth all-time meeting between Northwestern and Arizona State, with the Wildcats looking to even up the head-to-head record. A win over the Sun Devils would advance Northwestern to face the winner of the Pepperdine vs. SIUE match.

Coach Pollard is focused on the task at hand, emphasizing that the trip to the tournament is a business trip with the goal of winning matches. The team is determined to make a strong showing in the tournament and potentially advance to the following weekend in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
