The Norway varsity baseball team secured a 6-0 victory over North Central in Division 4 District pre-district action at Mike Maule Field. Despite the distractions of graduation and Memorial Day weekend, the Knights displayed a strong performance on the field.

Norway head coach Tony Adams praised his team’s effort, acknowledging their solid hitting despite some base running errors. The team’s first baseman, Alex Ortman, initiated a unique team bonding activity by dyeing their hair blonde, a look that he hopes the entire team will adopt.

For North Central, the loss marked the end of their season with a record of 11-13. Head coach Ben Snyder commended his players for their effort, particularly highlighting senior pitcher Adrian Mercier’s contributions to the team over the years.

Mercier, who pitched 5.2 innings in the game, received a heartfelt send-off from his coach and teammates as he was relieved for Nate Pipkorn. The Knights’ dominant pitching performance, led by Cole and Owen Baij, resulted in a combined no-hitter against North Central.

With key plays from Cameron Varda, Maddex Burklund, and others, Norway secured the win and advanced in the district tournament. The team’s unity and determination were evident on the field, setting a positive tone for their postseason journey. As they continue their quest for a district title, the Knights look to build on their recent success and carry their momentum forward.
