The Rapid River softball team faced a tough day on the diamond as they suffered two losses to Norway, with scores of 20-0 and 20-7. In the first game, the Knights dominated, scoring 12 runs in the second inning alone. Norway’s Liz Romitti and Emma Dube were key players in the offensive onslaught, driving in multiple runs to secure the victory.
Norway’s coach, Robert Bal, praised both teams for their performance, highlighting Rapid River’s improvement throughout the game. Romitti was a standout player for Norway, finishing with five RBIs and three runs scored in the first game.
In the second game, the Knights continued their strong performance, jumping out to a 13-0 lead after the first inning. However, Rapid River showed resilience, with Saylor Carlson hitting a three-run homer to put the Rockets on the scoreboard.
Despite the loss, Rapid River’s eighth-grade pitcher Zoey Fuller impressed with a strong performance on the mound, shutting down the Knights in the fourth inning. Coach Joe Smith commended Fuller for her confidence and the spark she brought to the team.
The Rockets managed to score two runs in the fourth inning, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Norway’s lead. Overall, it was a challenging day for Rapid River, but they showed determination and improvement as they continue to grow as a team.
