Ogunbowale and Billings lead Wings to victory over Sparks with strong performances

Reading Time: < 1 minute

In a thrilling matchup, the Dallas Wings narrowly defeated the Los Angeles Sparks with a final score of 84-83 on Sunday night in Los Angeles. Arike Ogunbowale led the charge for the Wings with 20 points, while Monique Billings contributed a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

The game came down to the wire, with Dallas securing the win after an 8-2 run that saw Ogunbowale sink a crucial free throw with just 16.1 seconds remaining. Despite a strong effort from the Sparks, including a last-second 3-pointer from Lexie Brown, the Wings managed to hold on for the victory.

Ogunbowale, who had an impressive 40-point performance the night before, struggled with her shooting but still came through with key baskets when it mattered most. Billings and Maddie Siegrist also made significant contributions to the Wings’ success, with Siegrist’s putback basket proving pivotal in the final moments of the game.

On the Sparks’ side, Cameron Brink stood out with a career-high 24 points, showcasing her skills with three 3-pointers and three blocks despite limited playing time due to foul trouble. Dearica Hamby, Lexie Brown, and Li Yueru also put up strong numbers for the Sparks, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Wings’ determined effort.

The game was not without its share of drama, as referee Angel Kent had to leave the game due to food poisoning in the first half. Despite the unexpected setback, both teams battled hard until the final buzzer, making for an exciting and closely contested matchup.
