Old Dominion Women’s Tennis Team Claims Second Consecutive Sun Belt Conference Championship
In an exciting match at the Rome Tennis Center, the Old Dominion women’s tennis team secured their second consecutive Sun Belt Conference Championship with a 4-2 victory over App State. The Monarchs, ranked No. 66 nationally and the No. 1 overall seed, showcased their dominance on the court with wins on four singles courts.
App State, the No. 7 seed, put up a strong fight, starting the match ahead with a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point. However, Old Dominion quickly turned the tide in singles play, taking a 3-1 lead with impressive straight-set victories. The Monarchs’ depth and talent were on full display as they secured the championship with a final score of 4-2.
The victory improved Old Dominion’s record to 17-5 on the season, while App State finished with a commendable 15-10 record after reaching the championship match for the first time in program history. The Mountaineers’ journey to the final as the No. 7 seed was a remarkable achievement in itself.
