Olivia Munn reveals shock of cancer diagnosis despite clear mammogram results – NBC Chicago

Olivia Munn, known for her roles in “Newsroom” and “X-Men: Apocalypse,” recently shared her battle with breast cancer in a candid interview with People magazine. The actress, who had always been proactive about her health, received a shocking diagnosis after a routine mammogram and genetic testing came back negative.

It was only when her doctor decided to run a different test, the Tyrer-Cuzick risk assessment calculator, that Munn’s high-risk score prompted further investigation. A subsequent MRI revealed cancer in both of her breasts, leading to a stage 1 Luminal B bilateral breast cancer diagnosis.

Despite the difficult news, Munn made the brave decision to undergo a double mastectomy to give herself the best chance at overcoming the disease. The 43-year-old actress underwent four surgeries over the course of 10 months, including lymph node dissection and a nipple delay procedure.

Reflecting on her journey, Munn expressed gratitude for the option to have the double mastectomy and the opportunity to fight. She credits her 2-year-old son, Malcolm, with giving her strength and perspective throughout her treatment.

“When I’m with Malcolm, it’s really the only time your brain doesn’t think about that you’re sick,” Munn shared. “It really puts a lot of stuff into perspective because if my body changes, I’m still his mom. That’s really what matters the most to me, I get to be here for him.”

Despite the challenges she faced, Olivia Munn remains resilient and grateful for the support of her loved ones as she continues her journey towards recovery.
