Olympiakos Makes History with UEFA Youth League Victory
In a stunning display of skill and determination, Olympiakos made history by becoming the first Greek club to win a UEFA title, triumphing over AC Milan with a resounding 3-0 victory in the UEFA Youth League final.
The match, held at the UEFA-run Colovray Stadium in Nyon, Switzerland, saw Olympiakos dominate the second half with three quick goals. Christos Mouzakitis opened the scoring with a penalty in the 60th minute, followed by Antonios Papakanellos doubling the lead just a minute later. Theofanis Bakoulas then sealed the victory with a spectacular bicycle kick in the 66th minute.
Speaking to AFP after the match, Bakoulas expressed his disbelief at his incredible goal, stating, “That goal, I haven’t seen it in my biggest dreams. I’ve scored in a final and it’s really a big moment.”
Coach Sotirios Sylaidopoulos praised his team’s historic achievement, emphasizing the impact it will have on Greek football. “It’s a good chance now to put more light on Greek football because if you see all the games, we deserve 100 percent to be the European champions,” he said.
The UEFA Youth League aims to develop European youth football by providing international matches and experience for young players. With Olympiakos’ victory, they join the ranks of clubs like Barcelona and Chelsea who have previously won the prestigious youth trophy.
The win not only marks a significant milestone for Olympiakos but also showcases the talent and potential of Greek football on the international stage.
