Elena Rybakina, Iga Swiatek, and Coco Gauff were among the standout players at the 2024 French Open as they secured victories in their first-round matches. However, the day was not without its surprises as Maria Sakkari fell victim to an upset on Day 2 of the Grand Slam event.

Rybakina, the No. 4 player in the WTA singles rankings, wasted no time in dispatching her opponent, Greet Minnen of Belgium, in just 73 minutes. The Kazakh player expressed her happiness at being back to compete at Roland Garros after withdrawing last year due to illness.

Meanwhile, Swiatek, the defending champion and current world No. 1, cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Leolia Jeanjean of France, converting all of her break-point opportunities. She will now face Naomi Osaka in the second round.

Gauff, ranked No. 3 in the world, also had a dominant performance, defeating Julia Avdeeva of Russia in just 52 minutes. The American will now take on Tamara Zidansek in the next round.

On the men’s side, Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev were among the top players to advance, with Zverev potentially ending Rafael Nadal’s run at Roland Garros with a straight-sets victory.

As the tournament progresses, fans can look forward to more exciting matches from top players like Novak Djokovic, Aryna Sabalenka, and Madison Keys. With coverage continuing on Tennis Channel and NBC, the stage is set for thrilling tennis action at the French Open.
