Fredonia High School’s flag football team kicked off their season with a strong 13-0 victory over Jamestown in a Section VI non-divisional game on Sunday. The standout player of the game was Francesca Pucci, who returned to the field after missing previous seasons due to a knee injury. Pucci rushed for 122 yards on 10 carries, scoring two touchdowns and recording four flag pulls.
In addition to Pucci’s stellar performance, senior Emma Patterson added 54 yards on the ground, while senior quarterback Ella Koopman completed 6 of 8 passes for 73 yards. Defensively, Koopman led the way with nine flag pulls and four pass breakups, supported by senior Rosa Aponte with five flag pulls and senior Lily Runkel with two sacks.
Jamestown’s Ella Propheter put up a strong fight, completing 13 of 35 passes for 69 yards and rushing for 73 yards on 10 carries. Defensively, Propheter had 13 flag pulls, including two for loss. Abbie Brandow, Kayamara Strudwick, and Kaylee Leeper also made significant contributions on defense for Jamestown.
Both teams are looking ahead to their next games, with Jamestown traveling to Niagara Wheatfield on Thursday and Fredonia heading to Pioneer on Wednesday. The exciting start to the season sets the stage for a competitive and action-packed flag football season in Section VI.
