Orioles’ Gunnar Henderson Sets Record as Youngest Player to Reach 10 Homers Before May 1 in 2-0 Victory over Yankees

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Baltimore Orioles secured a 4-0 victory over the New York Yankees in their first meeting of the season, thanks to a stellar performance by Grayson Rodriguez on the mound and a clutch home run by Jordan Henderson.

Rodriguez threw 5 2/3 shutout innings, allowing five hits, striking out three, and walking three. The 22-year-old Henderson stole the show with a crucial home run in the sixth inning, breaking a scoreless tie. This marked his ninth homer of the month, tying him with Orioles legends like Chris Davis and Manny Machado for the third most in April in team history.

Henderson’s impressive performance at the plate was complemented by Rodriguez’s dominant pitching, as the Orioles shut down the Yankees’ potent lineup. Manager Brandon Hyde praised Rodriguez for his outstanding fastball and changeup, keeping the Yankees off balance throughout the game.

Despite multiple opportunities, the Yankees failed to capitalize with runners in scoring position, leaving 10 men on base and going 0 for 8 in key situations. Baltimore added an insurance run in the eighth inning, securing the win.

With the victory, the Orioles improved their record to 4-1, while the Yankees dropped to 2-1. The two teams will face off again in the continuation of the series, with Nestor Cortes taking the mound for the Yankees against Dean Kremer for the Orioles.
