Out of This World: A UA Little Rock Professor’s Research Takes Us To The Moon and Back

University of Arkansas at Little Rock professor, Dr. Sujan Ghosh, is making waves in the field of space exploration with his innovative research aimed at strengthening the legs of future moon landers for NASA. Teaming up with Dr. Robert Fleming from Arkansas State University, Dr. Ghosh has secured a $50,000 grant from the Arkansas Space Grant Consortium to develop a cutting-edge nickel-chromium nanocomposite coating.

This multifunctional coating is designed to enhance the durability and resilience of moon landers, particularly in the face of extreme temperature changes on the lunar surface. Dr. Ghosh’s expertise in materials and surface engineering is proving invaluable in addressing the challenges posed by the harsh conditions of space.

The inspiration for this project came from a NASA collaborator’s presentation on the difficulties faced by moon landers on the dark side of the moon.
