St. Edmond Baseball Team Secures Victory with Game-Winning Hit

In a thrilling match-up at Rogers Park, the St. Edmond baseball team emerged victorious with a 4-2 win over Hampton-Dumont/CAL. The game was tied at 2-all until Kinnick Henning stepped up to the plate in the sixth inning and delivered a game-winning two-run single. His hit just cleared the outstretched glove of the second baseman, scoring Grant Galles and Koleman Hanson.

Pitcher Hayden Derrig played a crucial role in the win, striking out 12 batters while allowing no earned runs. JT Laufersweiler also made a significant impact, coming in to secure the final two outs and get the team out of a bases loaded jam.

Head coach Mike Szalat praised the seniors for their performance, stating, “Kinnick came up big. He saves us runs with his defense and he got it done at the plate. And Hayden and JT, that is what you want out of your seniors.”

This victory marked the first win for the Gaels over the Bulldogs since 2019, with the team showing resilience at the plate and on the field. Despite facing tough situations in the second, fourth, and fifth innings, the St. Edmond team remained composed and focused, ultimately securing the win.
