More than 120 business leaders have thrown their support behind the Labour Party in an effort to help the UK “break free” from a decade of economic stagnation. The senior executives, including prominent figures like Sir Malcolm Walker, Emma Woods, Andy Palmer, and Rachel Carrell, signed an open letter expressing their belief that it is time for a change in the country’s economic outlook.
The letter, published in The Times, highlighted the need for a government that partners fiscal discipline with a long-term growth strategy, working with the private sector to drive innovation and investment. The signatories praised Labour for showing a willingness to work with businesses to achieve the UK’s full economic potential.
This endorsement comes as a significant boost to Labour’s campaign, with Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves set to deliver her first major election speech. Reeves is expected to emphasize Labour’s commitment to being both pro-business and pro-worker, aiming to bring growth back to Britain.
Under the leadership of Sir Keir Starmer, Labour has made efforts to build relationships with businesses, resulting in increased business attendance at party conferences and greater donations to the party’s funds. However, the party has faced criticism over its proposals for workers’ rights, with the Conservatives arguing that Labour’s plans could cost jobs and burden businesses.
As the election approaches, the battle for business support continues, with Labour positioning itself as the party of change and economic stability, while the Conservatives emphasize their track record of business-friendly policies. Voters will have the opportunity to pass judgment on the economic strategies put forth by both parties on July 4.
